So its not the greatest quality- I had to take a picture of a picture because it was too big for my scanner, but I love the Charlie Brown Christmas special! The dancing scene on the stage is classic- I put Keri and I in there dancing around just for kicks. I might as well say, for my own record, that I love Christmas. And it is thanks to my parents who made it that way for us kids. I have very clear memories of playing hide and seek in Christmas tree lots with my siblings, door-bell ditching different people with treats for the 12 days of Christmas (and getting yelled at by neighbors who thought we were stealing decorations), and hearing Anne Murray and the Carpenters while my parents wrapped presents on Christmas eve.

I also wanted to draw this because I love the Vince Guaraldi jazz album that was the soundtrack to this Christams special. My Grandma, along with this album, were the things that really got me into liking Jazz.

Also- Its been years and years since I've done any real painting- and I have to say it was really fun. Wait, what? This post was sappy and TMI? meh. probably.

Down on the Bayou

"Psst! Avast there! It be too late to alter course, mateys... and there be plundering pirates lurking in every cove, waitin' to board. Sit closer together, and keep your ruddy hands inboard. That be the best way to repel boarders. And mark well me words, mateys... dead men tell no tales! Ye come seekin' adventure and salty ol' pirates, aye?.."

For some reason, I'm really digging on the inspiration of disney rides. This is my pirates of the caribbean style bayou.

I had the chance to go to disneyland about a month ago and noticed something- I couldn't see any of the bayou boats or fireflies. I could barely make out the old man smoking his pipe- it was so dark! When I was a kid, I remember being able to see everything in the bayou really well. Is it just my eyes that are getting bad or did they just say hey, lets make it so you cant see your hand in front of your face until the talking skeleton pirate? That'll fix their lil red wagon.

Anywho, this site is pretty much the best pirates site ever. enjoy.

20,000 leagues

Recently I stumbled across a blog about the 20,000 leagues under the sea disney ride and was really fascinated by the submarines and the giant squid. I've actually never seen the movie but I love the ocean and drawing monsters. Thus, sqiddler here.

I really liked the design of nemo's submarine but I saw alot of pictures of the squid and submarine. Apparently, there was a sunken viking ship among others in a ship graveyard as part of the ride and I really liked the idea of this Squid as a terretorial creature, feasting on men and ships throughout differant ages of time. (Hooray for Jules Verne and Walt Disney)

I didnt draw the fins on both sides or the mantle that most squids have because I wanted to have a simpler design and to make it seem more ancient and less evolved. I also found out that there's actually a vampire squid. how cool is that?

We are not alone,
We feel an unseen love.
We are sons and heirs of grace,
We are children of a light that never dims,
A love that never dies,
Keep your chin up child
And wipe the tears from your eyes.

experimental work or how i tried and failed to avoid the anime look

As of yet I hadn't indulged in drawing the guy with a big glowing sword.. but it had to happen sometime. I was just trying to figure out a pose i was playing with and I tried to make him look normal and not so anime-ish. oh well.
please enjoy some lyrics by the mighty Vampire Weekend
"Bryn"
Ion displacement won't work in the basement
Especially when I'm not with you
Here in the heartland, a feeling so startling
I don't what I should do
Oh Bryn! You see in the dark
Right past the fireflies that sleep in my heart
You know, it's easy to see
Wait for the season to come back to me
Lights by the ocean
A westerly motion that moves
California to sea
Eyes like a seagull
No Kansas-born beetle could ever come close to that free
